Julie reached out to us in the summer of 2024 with the sad news the central diamond had fallen out of her beloved three-stone engagement ring. This ring had been passed down through generations, originally belonging to her husband's grandmother. Over 100 years old, it was a cherished family heirloom with incredible sentimental value, though wear and tear had left it fragile.
Rather than simply repairing the setting and replacing the lost diamond, Julie wanted to give the ring a fresh lease on life while preserving its legacy. She envisioned a piece that would continue to be passed down to her daughters, keeping the tradition alive for future generations.
We met with Julie in person to discuss her options, exploring ways to balance the antique essence of the ring with a more contemporary flair that would reflect her personal style. We decided to keep the original three-stone layout, honouring the ring's original design, while introducing a stunning 0.50ct natural oval diamond to sit at the centre. The two old mine-cut diamonds from the original ring were repurposed, and placed on either side of the new diamond.
To reinforce the structure of the ring, we reused all the original gold from the original piece, adding additional metal to ensure its durability. This way, Julie's ring would not only last another 100 years but the sentiment and history would remain within the ring.
We were honoured to be a part of Julie’s journey, creating a piece that would carry her family’s history while celebrating her unique story. If you have an heirloom or a vision for a bespoke piece of your own, we’d love to help bring it to life. Contact us to begin your journey, and let’s create something beautiful that will be cherished for generations to come.
Julies testimonial
“I lost the diamond out of my engagement ring. I’ve been married for 37 years and my engagement ring was my husband's grandmother. It was over 100 years old and I really should have had the claws checked. I still had the ring and two out of the three diamonds. After the initial upset, I saw an opportunity to put my own stamp on my ring. I contacted Amy, and my husband and I met at her studio. We worked on a design together, then my mother-in-law was able to come with us on a second visit and help choose the new diamond ( the ring had originally been her mother's) Throughout the process Amy was so lovely, kind, and professional and gave us wonderful practical advice. She worked closely with us to design the most beautiful ring, both at her studio and online, helped us choose a replacement diamond, had a wax model made up and then, used the gold and the two diamonds from the original ring with an extra ( and slightly larger!! ) new diamond made my stunning new ring.
I love the way my ring is still my old ring but is to my design and how I was able to include close family in the process. It will forever be special to me and I absolutely love it. I can’t thank her enough for making it such a lovely experience. I would definitely recommend her.”
